The Historical Studies department at UTM asked Dr. Lisa Trentin and I to hold a workshop for their faculty on how to incorporate social media into teaching and learning practices. Over a lively two-hour session Lisa provided some really interesting information on how she uses Twitter with her students, including tips on what works, what doesn’t and what she’s going to try next. I provided a bit of context regarding undergraduate use of information technology (mostly taken from this great ECAR study) , went through university policy on the use third-party cloud-based technologies in the classroom, covered technical aspects of using social media services in concert with our CMS and discussed tips and tricks for furthering student engagement.
